President & Founder Trustee

Bhagyashri Jachakh

Bhagyashri Jachakh, born in a farming community of Baramati is a successful entrepreneur in the hospitality sector in Pune.

"In 2010, on one of my frequent treks in the forests of Polladpur ghats near Mahabaleshwar, a farmer approached me with an offer to buy his land to help him pay off his debts. His wife for livelihood spent the entire day collecting firewood and his underage daughters were sent to Mumbai to work as fulltime maid servants. I bought his land and retained his rights to continue tilling his land and reap the benefits.

As my interaction with the locals increased, I realised the need to empower womenfolk in the area who had spare time but were low on skills. I believe that improving the economic status of women leads to better outcome for the family, society and eventually for the nation. Thus the creation of MEERA, which to me symbolises both simplicity and power. Empower the simple rural womenfolk and we create several ‘MEERA mahila’, which is my ultimate aim.

I am fortunate to be backed by a team of trustees and volunteers who believe in the cause and work in tandem towards achieving our goals with great integrity and diligence
